Don’t Set Your Goals Until You Read This!

TABLE OF CONTENTS

It’s a little past (or a lot past) New Year's and our New Year’s goals - but, goal setting is a year-round thing! And when you set your goals, you actually want to reach them, right? So, what do you need to know BEFORE setting your goals? Let’s cover a few things you need to take into consideration…

What is goal setting? Goal setting is the process of aiming for a result (your “goal”) by establishing a plan or process to achieve said goal. Goals are going beyond your “right now” desires and creating a long-term commitment to achieving your end result. You’re committing your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in a way that will help you attain your goal.

Okay, now that we’re all aware of what a goal is, it doesn’t sound too difficult. But, what happens when you have obstacles in your way? Or maybe you have a hard time staying committed? Now, there are plenty of things you need to AVOID when creating your goals (and why your goals aren’t working), but we’re going to focus on what we SHOULD do when establishing our goals:

Use Your Logical Mind AND Emotion to Set Your Goals

When you write your goals, you want to use your logical mind. Your logical mind is when you analyze your goal, the process to achieve your goal, and the probability that you have to achieve your goal. You’re mapping out your tactics, where you’ll need to focus your energy, and how you will need to commit yourself.

You'll also want to use emotion when goal setting. When you take ownership of the actions to reach your goal, you're more likely to take action. During this part of establishing your goals, take a minute beforehand to calm your mind. Use meditation to increase your awareness and calm your mind, it’ll open your view to some things you didn’t consider before. Not only will you have a goal that is well-worked out, but you’ll also create a quicker path to your goal.

Focus on Visualization for a Motivator

This is a great way to determine if your goal is something you truly want - and if you’re able to find the motivation to achieve it! Working towards a goal as an entrepreneur can be a pain when you lose motivation halfway through, visualization can help you avoid that kind of sticky situation.

You want to focus on visualizing how you will feel, see, taste, and hear when you reach your goal. Your subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference! Do this when you first set your goal and when you feel discouraged and need a motivator. You’ll be able to step back into the picture and re-dedicate yourself to your goal.

Create Checkpoints and Milestones

Did you know that you can take the pressure off of achieving your goal by creating checkpoints and milestones? Creating checkpoints, sharing your progress, and keeping up with your goals weekly increases your likelihood of achieving your goals by 40%.

When you break your goals down, you take the pressure off of your end result and you’re able to detach from the outcome. For example, if your goal is to earn $60k in the year, break it down into $5k per month. Track your progress and celebrate! Share or even brag about hitting your milestones to your friends or business community, even share it with our community, The Aligned Business Woman!
